Working in the footwear industry for over 7 years, I have always been fascinated by footwear design, so naturally when I had the opportunity to take a last taping class, I jumped at the opportunity. Learning footwear last taping is a crucial skill for anyone involved in the design and creation of sneakers. The process involves wrapping the last, a model of a foot, with tape to create a base for pattern-making and design. This skill provides a tangible understanding of shoe anatomy, proportions, and construction. When it comes to sketching sneakers, a solid grasp of last taping enables designers to translate their ideas more accurately onto paper. It aids in visualizing how different design elements interact with the three-dimensional form of a shoe, ensuring that the sketches align with practical considerations in the production process.
